| Classes available on WoW |
There are nine different classes available in World of Warcraft. Not all classes are available to each race so it is worth considering what class you want to be before picking your race – see our guide to the races for which classes are available to each race.
The different classes available are druid, hunter, mage, paladin, priest, rogue, shaman, warlock and warrior. The type of class you are will determine how you play the game, most notably in combat so if you are teaming up with friends, ideally you want combinations that suite each other.
Druids
Druids work well as healers though with the ability to fight with spells and weapons they also work well for solo combat. They can only wear clothe or leather armour though it is still a step up from ages and priests. Druids have the ability to change into various animals and fight like that too, which is very cool.
Hunters
A great choice for those who like animals. You will be able to track, tame and kill all kind of wacky animals. Hunters are ranged attackers who use good old-fashioned bows and arrows or firearms. However this means that hunters are venerable in melee combat and cannot wear plate armour.
Mages
Surprisingly, mages are into magic. You can specialise in arcane, fire or ice each has their own cool spells. Mages can deal powerful damage in battle so team up well with warriors and can get around fast using teleportation. However they can only wear clothe armour and die pretty easily.
Paladins
Knights of ye-olde times (although of course in World of Warcraft it is called current day), they are righteous and uphold the principles of being excellent to each other. Paladins are great in melee combat and even have some basic healing abilities. They can also summon steeds and wear the heaviest armour. However they cannot carry as much equipment nor do they have as much strength as the warrior.
Priests
Many of the races within World of Warcraft can have priests to lead the religious-ness of the society. They are the most powerful healing class in the game, which is generally their primary job so it is a team up with your friends class. This means that priests are really popular among other players. They are also able to charm humanoid monsters. However like with mages, they can only wear clothe armour.
Rouges
With the ability to fade into the darkness, rouges will often be found doing dastardly deeds or stealing things. Therefore there are always plenty of employment opportunities in a corrupt world such as Azeroth. They have abilities to stealthily reach places, pick locks escape from battles but can only wear leather or clothe armour.
Shaman
Available only to the horde, shamans are the leaders of spiritual activities within the various tribes of evil creatures. Shamans can have up to four totems - earth, fire, water and air which changes their spells accordingly. They are secondary healers and can travel fast but initially can only wear leather armour.
Warlocks
Basically mages gone bad – those who went too deep into dark magic and are now overcome by it. Warlocks rely on cool looking pets to draw enemy attention which makes them excellent for solo combat. However they are pretty weak and can only wear clothe armour.
Warriors
Where would the game be without warriors? The brute force which is centred around melee combat and getting stuck in there and causing short-ranged damage. They can equip with all armour and almost all weapons, slaughter monsters and take loads of damage. However they do require the right gear and have no ability to heal themselves. |
